PORVORIM: Ruling out any foul-play into the death of 19-year old Siddhi Naik, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Monday told House that “someone” is trying to politicise the case.
The Opposition, not satisfied with the police probe, however demanded that the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Sawant said, “As per the post mortem report the victim died due to drowning.”
“Even the review of the autopsy has revealed that the girl died due to drowning and that there were no injuries on her body,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that during the reinvestigation carried out, the police recorded the statement of family members, close relatives, victim friends as well as all those who were in know of Siddhi.
“Even her mobile was checked thoroughly but nothing suspicious was found. Only thing that came to light was that the victim was continuously searching for information with regards to the harmful effect of COVID-19,” he said.
Raising questions over the different statements recorded by the father, the Chief Minister said, “It looks like someone is trying to politicise the case.”
The Opposition, however, were not convinced with the findings of the investigation and demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI. Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Churchill Alemao demanded that the case be handed over to CBI for further investigation.
Alemao charged that it is a clear cut “murder” case, as the body of the victim was found in a semi-nude condition. “No women…whether Hindu, Catholic, Muslim…will go into water without wearing bikini,” he said.
“Also, if it was a case of drowning, then the body should have been full of water which was not in this case,” he said.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat also maintained that justice is not delivered to the victim’s family.
