PANJIM: The post-mortem report of Sonali Phogat revealed that there are multiple blunt force injuries on her body. The cause of death however has not been disclosed since the chemical analysis and other reports are pending.
The Forensic Medicine Department of Goa Medical College (GMC) has reserved its opinion on the cause of death, pending chemical analysis, histopathology and serology reports.
“There are multiple blunt force injuries on the body. In view of this, the manner of death is for the investigating officer to ascertain,” the report said.
The autopsy report is signed by Dr Sunil Chimbolkar and Dr Mandar Kantak.
Anjuna Police have registered a murder case and added Section 302 of IPC in Sonali Phogat’s death. The murder charges have been filed against her manager Sudhir Sangwan, and friend Sukhwinder.
On Thursday morning, Sonali’s mother from Haryana said, “My daughter Sonali Phogat was from a Jat family and a strong person. She was not in any kind of depression, but was working hard for the BJP. I am requesting the BJP leaders from the Centre and Goa to give justice to us. I have even appealed to former Governor of Goa, Satya Pal Malik to intervene in the matter.”
Phogat’s brother Rinku Dhaka added that the colour of her face and body had turned blue, which indicated poisoning.
“She worked hard for BJP, but here in Goa we’ve got no help from the ruling BJP government. I have requested Haryana DGP to search and confiscate suspicious objects found in Phogat’s flat.”
Just before the release of the post-mortem report, the Anjuna Police registered a murder case in BJP leader Sonali Phogat’s death against two persons who had accompanied her to Goa. Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was added to the case related to the death of the 42-year-old leader.
Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh, who had accompanied Phogat when she arrived in Goa on August 22, were named as accused in the case.
Phogat’s brother Rinku Dhaka had filed a complaint against the two men at Anjuna Police Station on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the viscera of Phogat will be examined at Chandigarh and Goa.
Rinku alleged his sister’s death was a pre-planned murder. “I have done some inquiries on my own after arriving in [Goa] on Tuesday evening. It is not a normal death.”
He blamed Sudhir Sangwan, Phogat’s manager, and one Sukhwinder Singh. “They have been planning this for many days. On the day the murder took place, she had spoken to her mother, her sister, me, and others and from those conversations, we are very sure that she was in trouble and that anything could happen to her at any time. We had asked her to stay away from them and we would have filed a police complaint but she passed away at night.”
Sonali Phogat’s body was taken to Dabolim Airport from GMC for taking it to her hometown in Hissar, Haryana.
About 36 hours before her brother Rinku Dhaka filed a complaint alleging that his sister was raped and murdered by Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder. He claimed she was being blackmailed with an explicit video. According to him, Phogat had spoken to her mother, sister and brother-in-law a few hours before her death.
Rinku alleged that Sonali Phogat was drugged and raped by her assistant. “We are sure that our sister was raped and murdered,” he said.
Anjuna PI Prashal Desai said, “The exact cause of death will be ascertained only after chemical analysis is conducted which will reveal whether the death is due to consumption of drug, chemical or poison. Viscera is preserved and it will be sent to Forensic Science Laboratory, Verna for chemical analysis,” he added.
When asked about multiple blunt force injuries all over the body, PI Desai said, “These blunt injury marks are on the hands and legs and such marks occur while Phogot was lifted and taken to the hospital.”
“We have registered murder case under Section 302 read with 34 IPC and Phogat’s PA Sudhir Sangwan and friend Sukhwinder Singh are arrested,” Mapusa SDPO Jivba Dalvi said.

Initially the police had claimed that Phogat has died of heart attack on Tuesday and had registered it as a case of natural death.
On Thursday, a panel of doctors conducted post-mortem examination on the body of Phogat only after the family agreed for it with a condition that the whole autopsy will be captured in camera. The family had initially refused to go ahead with the autopsy demanding that the police first register it as a murder case.
