MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Lyndon Pereira on Thursday said the remediation of the legacy waste at Sonsoddo will resume by the end of this month.

He made this statement during his visit to the Sonsoddo dump yard along with civic body officers including Municipal Engineer Manoj Arsekar and engineer Vishant Naik.

It is pertinent to note that the remediation process of legacy waste under the Solid Waste Management Corporation was stopped due to the monsoons. MMC has now insisted that the concerned agency resume the works.

Speaking to media persons after his visit, Lyndon said the civic body will also stress on clearing the inert waste from Sonsoddo to create more space.

“After the visit I had a discussion with the

concerned official of the agency handling the remediation works at Sonsoddo and he informed me that pending work will resume by the end of this month”, he informed.

He said the civic body is planning to dump the inert waste from Sonsoddo near the Margao KTC bus stand.

The chairperson also visited the old plant to work out a solution to create more space to dump the waste generated on a daily basis.

“We are working hard to resolve the Sonsoddo garbage issue”, said Lyndon.

Reportedly, the old plant shed is already full to its capacity and there is no space left for dumping additional waste.

The civic body hoped to create more space by clearing the legacy dump through remediation process, besides it has been trying hard to expedite the process of installing two 25 TPD biomethanation plants at Sonsoddo.
