PANJIM: The Margao Municipal Council on Wednesday filed its compliance report before the High Court of Bombay at Goa regarding waste management activities at Sonsoddo on day-to-day basis.
In its compliance report, the Margao municipal council chief officer has stated that the entire day-to-day waste is being disposed at the Saligao treatment plant and at the SGPDA plant and that the work of constructing collapsed retaining wall and procurement of required equipment will commence soon.
The Court has asked all concerned authorities to strictly adhere to the timelines and complete the work within the timelines indicated in the compliance report.
The High Court adjourned the hearing to July 26, directed the Margao Municipal Council to file next compliance report. Meanwhile, the oral order by the court directing the Margao municipal council not to issue fresh construction licences will continue.
During the last hearing on July 11 while hearing a writ petition filed by Citizens of Sonsoddo, the High Court had issued certain directions to the Margao municipal council such to report to the Secretary (Urban Development) and to indicate day-to-day progress of waste management.
The chief officer was asked to procure three additional baling machines to bale the dry waste stored in the existing shed. In his compliance report, the chief officer stated that the request for one baling machine has been sent to Goa Waste Management Corporation while, request for additional two machines will be sent after the construction of extended part of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) shed.
