To the question regarding Sonsoddo, the Chief Minister assured to hold a joint meeting comprising of the concerned MLAs of Margao, Fatorda, and Curtorim and find a solution to the imbroglio within 10 days.

Stating that whatever is happening in the Assembly on Sonsoddo is a tiatr and a farce, Citizens For Sonsoddo member Francis Dias alleged that the project is only to make money.

“We have seen the site for so many years and nothing has happened. Even as the court mandated to clear the site of dump, now two machines have started working,” he said.

Another member Roque Mascarenhas, who was the petitioner in High Court for the bio-remediation of the dump said, “Some work seems to be happening at the dump. They have been given three years to clear the dump including monsoon. Even though some work is being done at the dump, the day-to-day garbage management has been an absolute failure.”

“It is a big sham, and I am not convinced by the day-to-day garbage handling,” he said adding that ultimately the failure to treat the day-to-day garbage is going to add to the dump.

Mascarenhas said there is absolutely no transparency in what the municipality plans to do at Sonsoddo.

MMC former chairperson Savio Coutinho said, “There is no proper will. They are thinking in terms of some contractor and tenders. If there was a will, the municipality could have handled the garbage issue and Sonsoddo very easily.”
