PANJIM: Goa will soon see a theme park based on the ‘waste-to-art’ as an effort to create replicas of iconic structures out of discarded materials or scraps, currently lying with various government departments. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs nine crore.

The Waste-to-Art Park is proposed to come up at the existing park at Bhagwan Mahavir Bal Vihar, Campal, in Panjim city. Approximately 200 kg of scrap will be used for creating the park.

The project is proposed by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC), which has invited bids for design, engineering and development of the park.

GWMC is appointed as the nodal agency for condemnation of vehicles and other scrap materials, unserviceable equipments, except e-waste, for all government departments, autonomous bodies and other state run agencies.

“As a step towards promoting upcycling/ recycling and spread a social message amongst the general public about sustainable development and circular economy, GWMC intends to utilize a portion of such waste to develop Waste-to-Art Park showcasing sculptures/ miniatures/monuments made out of scrap/waste materials,” the Corporation said.

The GWMC said that the Waste-to-Art Project is an extension of the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’.

With the project, the Corporation also targets to achieve good score in the Swachh Sarvekshan assessment of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. It has special scoring to the cities which has developed waste to wonder parks.
