PANJIM: Vouching for transparency and trust, the Registration Department has taken various services online with a further aim to digitise all other public services before the end of the current term of the government.
In a major achievement, the department has reconstructed 400 mutilated documents – that date back to the Portuguese time – till October 31, 2019. The documents reconstructed last year numbered 39.
Law, Judiciary and Legislative Affairs minister Nilesh Cabral also contemplates making marriage registrations online, subject to proper scrutiny of documents uploaded on the website by the applicants.
“From next week, all marriage certificates which were not available to the public will be put online in the original format. We are also working on applying online for registration of marriages at the applicants’ desired time and in future, I plan that the couples will not have to visit the office but get the marriages registered online after all their documents are examined,” he said, addressing a function to mark Registration Day on Friday.
With the process for reconstructing mutilated records underway, the department is ensuring the legacy data is not only digitised but also available to the citizen on the website.
“Since 2018, we have started the system of reconstructing documents, and this year we have carried out 400, with more in line. The books of documents between 1965 and 1970, before the Birth & Death records were established by the Central government and where Planning & Statistics Department is involved, are tattered. Its reconstruction is being done. We are also trying to see whatever best way we can preserve these documents and hence we have decided to scan and upload the documents,” he added as he reeled out a series of online services being offered to citizens.
The State has also planned to undertake various other initiatives online, including acceptance of stamp papers, starting of block chain system, etc.
“The online services have reduced allegations of corruption and I request to maintain the reputation,” Law Secretary C R Garg, also present at the function, said.
