PANJIM: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Monday said that the Department of Transport will introduce a new norm in Goa wherein owners of bars and restaurants will not allow their customers to drive back home after drinking, but will have to ensure they take a taxi. This will be their responsibility once the GoaMiles App taxi service is launched, he added.
Godinho was speaking after inaugurating the 11th State Road Safety Week-2022 on the theme ‘Start Early, Drive Defensively, Reach Safely’ at the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Porvorim.
Godinho said, “It will be the responsibility of owners of bars and restaurants having maximum footfalls not to allow drunk patrons to drive home but to provide them with a taxi. This is a safety aspect I want to introduce, as a new norm.”
Godinho said there are four major reasons behind the increasing number of road accidents- overspeeding, not following rules on the road, adventurous driving and the most worrisome and common cause, drunken driving.
Godinho further said that all important inter-junction roads across the State will be fitted with CCTV cameras, which will capture traffic violations, even at night hours.
