PANJIM: Former Congress Mandrem MLA and BJP leader Dayanand Sopte on Friday claimed that the BJP brass, including Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, has intervened to sort out his and the party’s growing difference with former CM Laxmikant Parsekar.
Parsekar, who lost to Sopte, considers the new BJP member as his arch rival and had vent out his anger against BJP state president Vinay Tendulkar for not taking him into confidence over Sopte’s induction.
Speaking to media persons, Sopte said the Chief Minister has already intervened and sent a message to Parsekar, in bid to sort out the differences. “Parsekar is my leader. He is senior to me. I will meet him. His support is very important for me for the by-election,” he said.
“A message from the Chief Minister has already gone to Parsekar and the response is good. At the senior level, talks are taking place. Parrikar is trying his level best to resolve the crisis.”
Sopte said the party has asked him not to meet or hold talks with Parsekar unless the leadership resolves the issue.
The former chief minister has publicly announced he will work against Sopte in the byelections in Mandrem. Though, Parsekar has said he will announce his future steps once elections are announced, Congress has already approached the leader with the offer of a ticket.
