MARGAO: Maina Curtorim police have ascertained that the medical waste or biopsy parts recovered from the fields in Verna were those submitted by famous oncologist Dr Shekhar Salkar to a private laboratory in Panjim for analysis in 2014.
It may be recalled that yesterday afternoon police were informed about body parts in containers being found in the fields near the Coca Cola factory at Verna Industrial Estate and accordingly they had booked a case under Section 269 of the Indian Penal Code for negligent act likely to spread infection of diseases dangerous to life.
The Shekhar Salkar whose name was found on some of the containers admitted that those were parts he had referred to Dr. Sood laboratory in Panjim for analysis in the year 2014. Police are now trying to contact Dr Sood to find out to whom he had given those parts for disposal.
Medical waste and particularly biopsy tissues are to be scientifically disposed either through an incinerator or by burying them deep in the soil to a specified depth.
