MARGAO, AUG 4
The H1N1 isolation ward housed in the TB Sanatorium has been kept ready to take care of any new cases in South Goa following the death of a migrant woman last week.
The isolation ward was set up last year at the height of the spurt in H1N1 cases as the patients from South Goa were put to hardships to travel to Chicalim and the GMC, Bambolim.
If the authorities at the TB sanatorium are to be believed, many patients with suspected H1N1 were admitted to the isolation ward during the last one year.
As of now, not a single patient is admitted in the isolation ward, but following the death of the migrant woman from Moti Dongor, the authorities have geared up to meet any situation.
“Not just the isolation ward, but the staff required to meet the requirements is ready to meet any situation”, informed a senior official.
The senior health official clarified that the migrant woman breathed her last at the Hospicio hospital and was never brought to the isolation ward at the TB Sanatorium.
Meanwhile, District Collector G P Naik said the district authorities has convened a meeting of the health officers from south Goa on Saturday to take stock of the H1N1 situation in the district. “The meeting on Saturday will review the H1N1 situation and decide on how to spread awarenes,” Naik added.
He said the authorities have appointed Margao Urban Health Officer, Dr Geeta Kakodkar as the nodal officer to deal with H1N1 cases.
