MARGAO: The South Goa district administration has decided to deploy a medical team at the SGPDA ground, the venue for public hearing on Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) scheduled on July 8.
The second round of meeting held at District Collector’s office on Tuesday was chaired by District Collector Ruchika Katyal.
Pankaj Kumar Singh, South Goa Superintendent of Police besides, Additional Collector Surendra Naik and all other concerned officers attended the meet and discussed the issues pertaining to the arrangement of the public hearing.
The District Administration has decided to close the SGPDA markets for two days– July 8 and 9. They expect the hearing to end within two days. Nearly 700 police personnel will be deployed in and around the venue for two days. The Traffic Department has also finalised the plan for parking and movement of the vehicles.
Additional Collector Surendra Naik informed that a meeting was held and everything has been finalised with regards to the law and order on July 8 and 9.
“A medical team will be deployed at the venue to assist the public if someone fell ill. Besides, a large number of police personnel will be deployed at the venue”, he said.
He said the district administration will not arrange anything related to food or refreshments for participants. “We have finalised the entry and exit points, besides the registration counters. Markets in the SGPDA complex such as fish, meat, and vegetable will be closed and we will issue the order regarding the same”, the additional collector informed.
Reportedly, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Harish Madkaikar said the role of the police is to maintain the law and order and provide security.
Sources informed that two platoons of the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) have been requisitioned at the venue.
On the other hand, social activists, besides fishermen, farmers, representatives of political parties and local bodies are gearing up to participate in the public hearing in large numbers. A group of social activists from Salcete is holding meetings with the people of several villages mobilising them to attend the hearing.
