MARGAO: The South Goa District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) has been shifted from the old Hospicio building in Margao to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) in Fatorda.
This will offer a relief to the parents of children who would visit the DEIC. The parents were anxious over the conditions of the old DEIC premises at the Old Hospicio, particularly in view of the monsoon season.
It may be recalled that in the first week of April, the Goa State Commission of Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) led by the chairperson Peter Borges, had carried out an inspection of the old DEIC and had expressed deep concern over the infrastructure.
Borges had issued a list of recommendations to the SGDH Medical Superintendent (MS) calling for urgent repair work and for shifting of the premises, ideally to the SGDH itself, which he felt would create a better environment at the DECI and benefit the public.
When contacted by O Heraldo, Borges was elated over the shifting of the DEIC premises and reiterated that this was needed to be done in the interest of the community.
