MARGAO: The Government cannot seem to make up its mind over the exterior colour of the South Goa District Hospital Building.
In January this year, the building was painted dark yellow. Many activists like Laurel Abranches from Margao were opposed to the colour since it was similar to the colour of the District Collectorate Building and would thus confuse people. Others claimed that the ruling party was “saffronising” all the new buildings.
In summer, the building was repainted. This time the exterior of the ground floor was painted blue while the exterior of the first floor was painted cyan (greenish-blue). The dual colour shade looked odd since it lacked the contrast. Around monsoon season, better sense prevailed and the first floor was painted blue once again. But in October, the government made a U-turn and the colour of the first floor was repainted cyan once again.
When herald contacted, the officials of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) informed that the decision for changing the colour was taken by the chief minister.
However, activist Abranches criticised the “unnecessary experiment” on painting saying, “There should be a standard colour for medical buildings. The dual colour makes it look like the first-floor paint has faded and makes the building look old. In the evening, the colours look different. I hope they paint it blue again.”
“If they can’t finalise a simple paint colour, this shows how badly the project is planned,” he said.
