South Goa Collectorate undergoes urgent repairs after rebuke from Minister

MARGAO: Following stern action from Environment Minister Alexio Sequeira, the concerned contractor has commenced repair works on the toilets at the South Goa District Collectorate complex in Margao. Additional Collector-I, Srinet Kothwale, stated that the Public Works Department (PWD) will address electrical and repair issues, and a comprehensive report will be submitted to the government.

Due to a lack of proper and timely maintenance, the conditions of toilets and other areas have worsened at the South Goa Collectorate building. Several locations have a deteriorating ceiling roof, and issues with electrical wiring exacerbate the challenges faced by visitors.

Expressing anger over the situation, Minister Sequeira took decisive action against the contractor and PWD officials. “Instructions issued by the Minister are being seriously followed up. The concerned contractor has already initiated repair works on toilets, including the replacement of broken tiles,” said Kothwale.

He further added that the PWD has mobilised efforts to start and complete various repairs. A detailed report of the undertaken works will be submitted to the concerned minister upon completion.

Citizens have also raised concerns about the perilous condition of slabs over the gutters, posing a danger to visitors. Caitan Fernandes, a resident of Nuvem, urged authorities to address the issue promptly to prevent untoward incidents.
