MARGAO: Keen on reducing crimes, police stations in South Goa have begun surveilling the homes of the 102 history-sheeters residing in the district.

Surveillance includes picketing such houses, maintaining vigil during nightfall and making periodic inquiries about the movements and behaviour of the criminals, a police sub-inspector said.

At 19, Margao town police station has the highest number of history-sheeters in the district, while Vasco has 16 , Verna 13, Ponda 15 and Maina-Curtorim 10.

Colva and Cuncolim, meanwhile, have six history-sheeters each, Fatorda five, Quepem four, Curchorem and Canacona three each, and Mormugao and Collem one each.

Interestingly, there is not a single history-sheeter within the jurisdiction of the Sanguem police station.

“Proper maintenance of records pertaining to history-sheeters at every police station is a pre-requisite for the smooth functioning at all stations. These records help immensely in the prevention and detection of crime and in keeping track of the movements of criminals,” a police officer said.
