South Goa District Registrar is in headlines yet again, this time for discovering fake residential certificates for marriage registration. District Registrar Suraj Vernekar has filed police a complaint before the Fatorda police after his office discovered fake residential certificates being furnished to register marriage. He has requested for a detailed probe into the matter. The matter came to lite when the Sub-Registrar office of Salcete found a suspicious document. Scrutiny of the all-marriage certificates was conducted and it was found that the residential certificates attached with the applications were bogus.
Upon noticing these discrepancies the Office of the Registrar started cross verification of all the documents. However, more fakery came to light after the office of the registrar realised that the residential certificates which were attached to the marriage certificate were not issued by any Mamletdar Office.
Nearly 4 residential certificates were found to be with same serial numbers, another certificate was found with the signature of Mamletdar who was already transferred. “Acting upon this matter when we called upon the concern parties, they replied saying that the agent has taken huge amount of to issue these certificates” Vernekar explained.
He further said that the authorities are not issuing such certificates, there some people who are forging the certificates previously issued by their officers. Vernekar further appealed to the citizens of the State not to fall for fakery and always take the certificates from the concern authorities. If at all they are approaching the third party to issue certificates, please do verify the authenticity of the certificate, he added.
Further investigation in the matter is before the Fartoda police.
