South Goa Parliamentarian visits flood affected family at Bogmalo

Blames lack of planning caused disaster in the area

VASCO: South Goa MP Capt Viriato Fernandes on Tuesday visited the flood affected family at Bogmalo, and blamed that lack of planning had caused disaster in the area.

He feared that the present situation could give rise to vector borne diseases such as malaria and dengue at Bogmalo.

Capt Fernandes along with former Zilla Panchayat (ZP) Member Gopi Naik inspected the area and met the family which was affected due to waterlogging. He said that he saw a video of the family at Bogmalo struggling with waterlogging and water flowing out from the commode as well. It was a serious concern as the drainage for natural flow of water had now been blocked due to construction activity.

The area was now flooded and the residents had to wade through it often risking their lives due to slippery conditions. He feared that stagnant water if not cleared would be a ground for mosquito breeding which could cause vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue in the area.

He stressed the need for a long-term planning and added that he will take up this issue before the relevant authorities including health services to take preventive measures to combat malaria and dengue cases.
