MARGAO: Police in South Goa have collected more than Rs 75 lakh by way of fines since the lockdown was ordered on March 25, and have booked 12,180 cases against people moving around without mask while 5,233 persons were booked for spitting in the public places.
The total amount collected by way of fine is Rs 75,24,891 with Ponda Police Station ranking highest having collected Rs 11,31,251 followed by Verna Police who collected Rs 8,87,980 while Vasco Railway Police Station having collected Rs 1,18,750, ranked the lowest with Konkan Railway Police Station being just above it having collected Rs 1,47,100 as fines.
Fatorda Police booked the maximum number of people moving without a mask as they booked 2,150 cases followed by Vasco where 1,485 cases were booked and the least cases were booked by Konkan Railway Station where only 172 persons were caught without mask followed by Sanguem where 199 persons were found moving without mask.
Mormugao Police Station booked 1,334 persons for spitting in public places while Verna police booked 1,155 cases. Konkan Railway Police Station has not booked a single case of spitting in public places while the Dabolim Airport Police Station has booked 14 cases and Vasco Railway Police booked 33 cases.
In all 833 persons were arrested with Vasco Police ranking topmost having arrested 138 persons followed by Ponda, who arrested 137 persons. Collem Police arrested only 14 persons while Sanguem Police arrested 22 persons. The Vasco Railway, Dabolim Airport and Konkan Railway police stations arrested none.
Of the 278 vehicles seized, Vasco Police seized 56 followed by Margao Town Police where 35 vehicles were seized. While Collem Police seized three vehicles, Mormugao Police seized five.
Of the 48,625 cases booked under the Motor Vehicles Act, Ponda ranked first having booked 9,170 cases followed by Fatorda Police Station who booked 7,094 cases and the least cases were booked by Vasco Railway Police who booked only 881 cases followed by Mormugao Police where 1,225 cases were booked.
South Goa Police booked 393 cases for violations of the lockdown orders issued by the Collector with the highest number of cases being booked in Margao followed by Verna where 51 and 47 cases were booked respectively.
The least number of such cases were booked at Collem Police Station where only five were booked followed by Mormugao where only nine cases of MV Act Violations were registered and the three police stations at Vasco Railway, Konkan Railway and Dabolim Airport booked none.
