South Goa Road Safety Committee held a comprehensive meeting along with the Transport Department in Margao discussing various road safety issues concerning consumers on Moday. The committee, chaired by the South Goa Collector at the Collectorate Margao, announced the observance of Road Safety Month from January 29 to February 28, aiming to advocate for road safety and traffic regulation.
The Transport Department conveyed that a Road Safety Month was initially slated from January 15 to February 14, but due to a delayed initiative letter received on January 10, the committee rescheduled the observance to January 29 – February 28.
During this dedicated month, a broad spectrum of road safety issues will be addressed. As part of spreading awareness, the Margao KTCL bus stand will be shifted in preparation for Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visit to Goa. Ongoing works related to this move will contribute to the awareness campaign in collaboration with the Transport Department.
The meeting highlighted concerns regarding the delayed production of the Action Taken Report (ATR) by various departments. Lorna Fernandes, representing the South Goa Road Safety Committee, raised questions to the Education Department about the transportation of school-going children. The department failed to provide necessary information regarding the transportation methods and vehicles used for children. Similarly, when inquiring about trauma centers in health centers, the Health Department stated that each health center, including South Goa District Hospital, has a trauma center. However, concerns were raised about why patients were still transported to GMC for trauma care when SGDH already has one.
Issues such as these were discussed and addressed during the meeting, emphasizing the importance of effective road safety measures and collaboration between departments.
