MARGAO: Strange it may seem, but true that South Goa has no full-fledged district Collector for a month now, with the affairs being managed by a stop gap Additional Collector, Venancio Furtado.
Ever since then District Collector, N D Agrawal retired on December 31 last year, the government had ordered Additional Collector, Venancio Furtado to hold the charge until further orders. However, neither the government has moved in to appoint a full-fledged collector by elevating Furtado to the coveted post, nor has appointed an additional collector till date.
Incidentally, the acting district Collector had been virtually pre-occupied with the Canacona building collapse for a week and is now busy with the government appointed inquiry probing into the case.
Speculations are doing the rounds whether the government has in mind a senior officer to head the district collector, but was waiting for the curtains to come down on the Lusofonia games.
It is also being rumoured that the government will shortlist a candidate for the top job taking into account the election code of conduct for LS?polls.
