MARGAO: South Goa Zilla Panchayat (ZP) Chairperson Suvarna Tendulkar announced on Wednesday that she will tender her resignation from the post on Thursday, August 1, in accordance with directions from the Goa BJP senior leaders.
She revealed that the party has decided that chairpersons and deputy chairpersons of both South and North Goa ZPs will be required to step down.
ZP members from various constituencies convened at the SGZP headquarters in Margao on Wednesday for a felicitation ceremony, where they expressed their gratitude to Tendulkar for her work and the support she had provided for development projects in their respective constituencies.
During the event, Tendulkar highlighted the challenges faced by the SGZP, including the frequent transfers of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and the reliance on staff members who either held additional charges or worked on a contract basis.
She noted that transfers continued to occur among non-permanent staff, while the number of permanent staff members who remained in their positions was limited. Tendulkar added that those holding additional charges were only available two days a week.
Despite these obstacles, she emphasised that they had successfully carried out a substantial amount of development work and ensured that funds were distributed across ZP constituencies.
Tendulkar expressed her appreciation for all the staff members and government departments that had assisted her with these initiatives. She explained that following the SGZP body meetings, considerable legwork was necessary to implement the resolutions adopted during these sessions with follow-ups needed with all the departments.
In reflecting on her tenure, Tendulkar acknowledged the difficulties they had overcome and the accomplishments they had achieved, painting a picture of a challenging yet productive period for the South Goa Zilla Panchayat under her leadership.
