MARGAO: The South Goa Collector issued an order on Thursday directing all the Revenue Officers to start taking up mundkarial cases such as declaration, purchase and appeals on all Saturdays for speedy disposal of such cases with immediate effect.
These directions were issued to all the Deputy Collectors and SDOs and mamlatdars and joint mamlatdars who have also been asked to submit weekly progress reports of the hearings in this regard, on every Monday.
Earlier this week, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, and Revenue Secretary Sandip Jacques conducted a session with top revenue officials to expedite the resolution of mundkarial cases within two months.
The meeting aimed to address procedural obstacles causing delays. Approximately 1,000 cases await resolution in South Goa, and 920 in the North.
During the meeting, a decision was taken to consider revising the rules and if necessary, make adjustments to the principal law to eliminate specific procedural redundancies encountered by mamlatdars and joint-mamlatdars overseeing quasi-judicial courts.
The CM had also directed the immediate filling of vacant joint mamlatdar positions in the relevant talukas.
