MARGAO: The South Goa Taxi operators have decided to join the indefinite strike against the entry of the rent-a-cab operators in Goa, from July 16. The strike call was given by the North Goa taxi operators.
The Association has condemned the government, in strong words, for keeping mum on the issue even after several memorandums and meetings.
The south taxi operators joining the indefinite strike makes it an all Goa event, as the tourist and yellow black taxis also joined in.
“We have been meeting the former and the present chief minister with suggestions. But our demands have not been fulfilled compelling us to join indefinite strike called by the North Goa taxi operators,” said Roque Fernandes, a taxi owner.
“The chief minister has been served a memorandum and he has verbally assured to look into our demands. Until we get a written assurance, we will agitate,” said Luis Fernandes, President of South Goa Taxi Owners Association.
“These politicians need us during elections and after elections they support outsiders. The rent-a-cab will bring in lots of taxi contractors with 50 and 100 taxis and like what happened in Lusofonia Games we will be bypassed and they will become richer and richer and local taxi owners will perish,” said Roque.
