South Western Railway seal ‘dangerous’ tank of Curchorem Yard

curchorem: Taking cognizance of the news story appeared in Herald, South Western Railways (SWR) sealed the tank of Curchorem Railway Yard Spraying System at near the tile factory, Khamamoll by using back hoe excavator on Wednesday.

The two bore wells which were constructed along with water storage tanks on the ground at both the ends of the yard during the peak mining activities in order to pump and sprinkle water in the wagons while unloading the ore. But since the mining activities stopped both the pump houses remained non-functional since then and the net used to cover the tanks for protection was eroded and completely disappear from leaving it opened causing concerns for nearby residents as their children plays in the vicinity.

It maybe recalled that Herald in its edition dated April 10, had reported the matter in the article titled ‘Curchorem Fire Station rescues cattle from drowning in a well’.

Recently, two oxen, while grazing on the nearby unnatural hillock created by railway authorities by dumping mud, slipped and accidentally fell and started drowning in the tank. Personnel from the Curchorem Fire and Emergency Services rescued them on both the occasion after getting information from some locals residents.

When Herald brought the incident and need to take preventive measures to the notice of the railway authorities they assured to cover them. “After Herald brought to our notice about the incident we decided to seal one tank near the tile factory side by filling mud in it and to do the fencing to other tank at other side of the yard.” said the Senior Section Officer Elisha who was present at the site along with Junior Engineer Namdev.
