MARGAO: At the monthly meeting of the South Goa Zilla Panchayat (SGZP) held on Friday, the State budget recently unveiled by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was hailed by the SGZP body.
Speaking to media persons, SGZP Chairperson Suvarna Tendulkar said that a delegation representing the SGZP had met the Chief Minister and placed their demands before him, prior to the Budget Session.
The first demand was for more funds under the ‘Rural Infrastructure Development’ (RID) budget category, and the second demand was to increase the honorarium amount, meaning the salaries that the panchayat members presently receive.
Earlier during the meeting, various discussions were held about pending works of individual ZP members.
While some ZP members demanded better accountability and access to the bills of works being carried out, others demanded that the State Director of Panchayat increase the tender ceiling amount for ZP projects, so that development works do not get blocked due to financial obstacles. Other issues raised were the lack of water supply in Quepem.
