PANJIM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Altinho, Panjim on Sunday announced onset of Southwest monsoon over Goa, six days after the normal date. Monsoon reached Karwar on Sunday, a day after reaching Kerala.
“The Southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Karnataka, Goa, some parts of Konkan, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, some parts of Andhra Pradesh, entire south-west and some more parts west-central Bay of Bengal, some more parts of north-west Bay of Bengal and remaining parts of north-eastern States and some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Bihar during next 48 hours,” the IMD stated.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued port warning from Dahanu to Mormugao of Maharashtra-Goa coast in view of extremely severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy gushing over the Arabian sea.
Cyclone Biparjoy has intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm and lies centered over the east-central Arabian Sea, 460 km South-South-West of Porbandar and 510km South-South-West of Devbhumi Dwarka.
The cyclone also lies centered 600km South-Southwest of Naliya (as recorded at 8.30 am on Sunday), the IMD said.
The cyclone is expected to cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts on Thursday at noon as a very severe cyclonic storm, the IMD added.
