PANJIM: Four persons, absconding after the shooting and rioting incidents at Souza Lobo Restaurant at Calangute, were arrested by sleuths of Crime Branch, taking the tally of total arrests to 15. The accused are identified as Limbu alias Mohd Sadiq Nadaf, aged 20 years and a native of Karnataka, Suraj Kumar, (21) from Himachal Pradesh, Pankaj Singh, (27) from Uttarakhand and Rohit Minj (29) from Odisha were arrested after a manhunt.
The accused, working in beach shacks in Calangute, were residing in the coastal belt. Sources said they will be subjected to questioning as more persons are suspected to be involved in the crime.
The incident in the middle of overcrowded beach last month raised question on the overall law and security in the State, particularly tourist-bound hubs. Following allegations of mishandling of the case and suspected role of some policemen with the gangs involved in the violence, the Goa Police suspended a Police Inspector and two constables. The probe was also handed over to the Crime Branch for an impartial and in-depth probe considering that similar matters have surfaced in the recent past.
