MARGAO: Superintendent of Police (South) Arvind Gawas who was awarded the President’s Police Medal on Independence Day for distinguished service this year is the tenth person from Goa Police force and sixth from Goa to be conferred this meritorious award.
Gawas has a distinguished record as a police officer having even served in the Union Territory of Pondicherry and was bestowed the Police Medal in 2013 which is mandatory to be eligible for the President’s Police Medal.
The President’s Medal will be handed over to Arvind either on December 19, 2019 or January 26, 2019. Incidentally, this year this medal has been awarded to 89 police officers all over the country.
The other Goan police officers who were presented with the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service are then Addl SP L L I Gracias in 1989, then PI Manjunath Dessai in 2004, then PI Ulhas Gawas Dessai in 2010, then SP Umesh Gaonkar in 2016 and SP Dinraj Govekar in 2017.
The four officers of Goa Police Force who were not Goan who were conferred the medal are then DGP B S Brar in 2007, then IGP Kishan Kumar in 2009, then Sr SP Vinay Chaudhary in 2009 and then IGP Sunil Garg in 2015.
