MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has constituted a special cell to monitor the overall functioning of solid waste management on Wednesday.
MMC has also decided to expedite the process of installing two more 5 TPD waste treatment plants in the jurisdiction of Margao Municipality. The civic body along with Goa State Pollution Control Board GSPCB) held an inspection in this regard on Wednesday afternoon.
Speaking to media MMC Chief Officer Rohit Kadam said the special cell is formed in view of the increasing workload with respect to the solid waste management activities and compliances.
“The cell will look into the day-to-day affairs with respect to the solid waste management, Sonsoddo Plant, Bio-methanation plant, IDC shed and cleanliness of the municipality jurisdiction,” said Kadam.
Engineer Vishant Naik has been appointed as a nodal officer, and Sajjan Gaonkar, Viraj Arabecar, and Damodar Metri as members.
Sajjan Gaonkar personally visits all plants every day to ensure functioning. He will coordinate with all sections in the municipality with respect to the compliance of government or any court directions and prepare draft replies accordingly.
