MARGAO: Saying that Special Status for Goa is the need of the hour to protect the state’s culture and heritage, NRI Commissioner Dr Wilfred Mesquita has called upon Goans to leave behind their differences and join hands to achieve the demand.

The NRI Commissioner  also assured Mando lovers that the Goa government will not leave a single stone unturned to protect and preserve Goan culture, including Mando.

He was speaking at the State level Mando Festival organized by city-based TAME institute at the Ravindra Bhavan on Saturday.

“The government has demanded Special Status for Goa and every Goan, irrespective of caste and religion should support the demand. We have suffered because of our differences since Liberation. I hope we will all come together in support of Special Status to protect our culture and heritage”, he said.

Saying that Mando is unique in Goa’s rich cultural heritage, the NRI Commissioner  underlined the need to try and protect the culture. He said the government of Goa is all out to protect and preserve the rich cultural heritage, including Mando.

“Mando occupies an important place of pride in Goan folklore. Our government will ensure that Mando is not only preserved, but flourishes in the state”, the NRI Commissioner added.
