PANJIM: The State government on Monday constituted a Special Team to verify the food grain stock in godowns of the wholesalers and to take necessary action against hoarding of the stock, if any.
The move comes a day after Congress alleged that artificial shortage of food grains, due to hoarding by wholesalers and some BJP MLAs, has led to panic amongst public.
A Special Team of Inspectors of Civil Supplies, Commercial Tax and Legal Metrology have been constituted to physically open and verify the stock from the godowns of suppliers and wholesalers.
“The team is specifically authorised to take action against any hoarding under the Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act, 1980 and other relevant Acts,” the order issued by Director Civil Supplies Siddhivinayak Naik reads.
In case of any hoarding/overcharging, public are directed to contact the inspectors.

State government is working on to ensure that there is no shortage of essential food commodities to the public during the ongoing lockdown period.
