GTDC deputy general manager Gavin Dias told the media that the tourist train, which had a maiden run at the fag end of December between Mumbai and Goa will bring in tourists on the eve of Carnival. “We are presently working out the logistics, including the hotel bookings and transport arrangements for the tourists arriving in the State in the 17-coach train. We are in contact with TTAG to help the GTDC with logistic support,” he said.
The tourist train was launched in December after Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu inked an MoU with the State Tourism ministry.
As part of the MoU, both the KRC and the GTDC jointly launched a programme to impart training to the taxi, auto and motorcycle pilots on how to treat and welcome tourists visiting Goa by the railways. “We intend to hold the training programme at all the Konkan railway stations in Goa. The primary objective behind the programme is to add value to the services provided at the stations,” stated KRC Chief Commercial Manager, Linga Raju.
He expressed confidence that the training programme will be a win-win for pilots and tourists alike.
Dias said that good communication skills and proper guidance can work wonders for the pilots. “Lot depends on in giving the right impression of the State. Goa’s main forte is its hospitality. Win the confidence of the tourists with a warm smile. Don’t show them just the regular tourist spots, but new places as well,” he told the pilots.
Around 80 taxi, auto and motorcycle pilots plying from the Margao railway station were trained in hospitality in two batches today and tomorrow.
