Speed breakers erected all over Margao have been the cause of many an accident in the city. Sadly, the authorities have been found wanting in displaying a sense of urgency to paint the speed breakers, which have literally become accident prone zones.
Most of the speed breakers have no cat eyes despite the fact that the rules provide for the facility.
When Herald contacted the Traffic Police to explain the state of affairs of the speed breakers, officials again pointed accusing fingers at the PWD for situation.
“As per the system in place, a PWD Assistant engineer is authorised to look after the maintenance of the speed breakers. We had been making correspondence with the PWD, but the situation remains unchanged”, remarked a traffic police official.
