The accident occurred in heavy rain; a long traffic jam ensued with vehicles lined up along the Mapusa-Panjim highway; bus driver booked for rash driving

PORVORIM: A high-speed private bus met with a serious accident in Porvorim on Friday when it collided with a car and subsequently crashed into a nearby shop. Fortunately, the accident did not result in any fatalities, but five persons sustained injuries, and received medical treatment.

The incident involved a private bus traveling from Panjim to Mapusa, with its speed evidently being a contributing factor to the collision.

The bus driver, identified as Nasser Hussain Sheikh of Valpoi, was booked for rash and negligent driving.

Upon receiving the information, Porvorim police officers rushed to the accident site and initiated the necessary panchanama process. The accident led to a significant traffic jam on the Porvorim stretch of the national Highway, impacting the flow of vehicles in the area.

In a separate incident on Friday, a luxury car caught fire at the Birla Cross Junction, Verna, during the evening hours. Upon receiving the report of the incident, the Verna fire brigade dispatched personnel to the scene, who managed to extinguish the fire, preventing further damage.

However, the vehicle fire did cause a temporary traffic congestion at the busy junction before normal traffic flow was eventually restored.
