Speeding cop crashes into house in Ponda, residents have lucky escape

The car driven by the PSI allegedly had dark tinted windows, no pollution certificate and expired insurance

PONDA: In what could have been a major tragedy, a speeding car ploughed through the wall of a house in Ponda, after the driver, a policeman, lost control of the vehicle. The residents of the house had a narrow escape, as they were all in the kitchen.

Sandeep Parkar, the owner of the house, told Herald that the car was driven by PSI Ashish Satodkar posted at the Raj Bhavan in Dona Paula. He said the cop was proceeding from Ponda towards Khandepar and lost control at Opa Junction, veering into the wrong lane and then crashing into the house.

Parkar checked the car and found that it had dark tinted windows, no pollution certificate, and the insurance of the vehicle had expired.

“I suspect he was drunk. Initially, he apologised and said he would pay for the damages, but later, he turned up with around 8 men and said he could not bear the entire cost, and would only pay ‘some amount’,” complained Parkar, who vowed to file a formal complaint with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take action against policemen who blatantly break the law, and then abuse their power.
