PONDA: A major tragedy was averted and a family along with their little child had a narrow escape as a speeding truck landed on their moving scooter at Usagao yesterday.
Ponda police stated that the Wadalwada- Marcaim based couple Dinesh Gaude (39), Snehal Gaude (31) along with two-year- old child Ditya Gaude were returning from Bondla at around 12. 45 pm and on reaching Gaonkarwada, they noticed that a speeding truck heading towards Valpoi had lost control on sharp turn, went off track.
Dinesh immediately alerted his wife and the couple jumped off the bike along with their child jumped off scooter.
They did manage to save themselves but the truck fell on the scooter and their bike was crushed under the heavy vehicle. The couple and their child sustained injuries and were admitted to PHC at Pilem, Dharbandora.
The axel and wheels were separated from the vehicle and flung at a distance leaving onlookers spell bound. The truck driver booked by the Ponda police for rash and negligent driving.
