VASCO: A 14-year-old student was critically injured after a speeding truck knocked him down near the MES College junction on Thursday evening.
Agnelo Pereira, resident of Zorint-Zuarinagar was returning home on his bicycle from tuition classes while the truck was proceeding from Verna to Vasco when the accident occurred. It is learnt that the truck driver jumped the signal and knocked down Pereira.
Pereira was immediately rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim where his condition as stated to be critical. After the accident, the truck driver stopped at a distance and fled from the spot without rendering medical assistance to the victim.
Locals gathered at the spot and demanded that the traffic police be deployed at the junction due to increasing accidents.
The Verna police conducted the panchanama and have registered a case against the truck driver for rash and negligent driving.
