PANJIM: The southwest monsoon currents are expected to continue to remain active over a week, with likely formation of yet another low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal by around September 11.
IMD Goa observatory has extended Orange colour alert for the State will Wednesday, as the existing low pressure area, formed near Andhra-Odisha coasts, intensifying into a well marked low pressure area.
The pressure belt is likely to move west-northwestwards during next two days. As a result of weather enhancing systems, very heavy rainfall, exceeding 11.5 cm in 24 hours, is very likely across State.
“Another low pressure area is likely to form over North and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal around September 11,” IMD said.
As per IMD record, since September 1, State has recorded total 7.88 inches of rainfall.
In the last 24 hours, State recorded almost 1.90 inches of rainfall.
Meanwhile, the season rainfall has touched 110 inches, which is hardly one per cent above normal.
