Spike in cases against children have shocked the conscience of the State

PANJIM: Three back-to-back offenses against juveniles in 24 hours have shocked the conscience of the State, which has lately reported a spike in cases against children.

A fake Tantrik from Cansa-Thivim is arrested for raping a 14-year-old on the pretext of fulfilling all her wishes. The victim’s mother, who connived with the prime accused Ramakant Naik is also taken into custody.

Another incident involving the victim’s family has also shocked the State. A 13-year-old was pushed into a deep well at Moto Dongor in Margao, by his uncle. The boy has fortunately survived the murder bid and is undergoing treatment while the accused uncle is arrested.

Yet another disturbing case is that of a newborn’s death. The newborn was found in a trash bin wrapped in a plastic bag. The Vasco police have begun a search for the accused.

The State has already recorded 92 offenses in the first quarter of the year of which nearly one dozen sexual abuse cases are against juvenile girls while four cases are of abandoned minors with the youngest being one day old.
