Spinal cord rehabilitation centre for differently-abled persons by Matruchaya

PANJIM: For the first time in Goa, policies and medical facilities for differently abled people are being discussed and finalized at the International Purple Festival, which is presently on in the State. Following the Purple Festival, several centres and courses for differently abled people will be started. All differently abled persons whose financial situation is bad will have access to healthcare, thanks to this step towards opening the spinal cord rehabilitation centre by Matruchaya.

“I thank all the various organisations and associations working for the Divyang (persons with a disability) from across the country, who have been tirelessly helping the differently abled people and volunteering at the Purple Festival,” Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said during the inauguration of the spinal cord rehabilitation centre by Matruchaya.

Along with the establishment of rehab centre, the discussion for the policy decisions for differently abled people is being held at Goa through workshops and seminars along with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan). The discussion held through these workshops will help in formulating policies at the national level.

CM Sawant stated “Any unintentional injury can result in a person becoming disabled. All families who travel outside of Goa for treatment will be able to go to this rehabilitation clinic by Matruchaya, which will assist families who are struggling financially.”

This spinal cord rehabilitation center is a collaborative step of Matruchaya and Goa government which will cater to all types of injuries. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Matruchaya, and the Central government for this important move that will benefit differently abled persons throughout the nation, as well as those in Goa.
