MARGAO: A top health official in Margao has rubbished as false a message that a person affected by Coronavirus is hiding in railway quarters in the town.

A message had gone viral that read: “Reliable sources have informed that a Kerala student who was studying in China has come to Goa from China after the outbreak of Coronavirus disease. He is indoors in railway quarters at Margao, since his arrival its kept secret.”

After verifying the message, the Hospicio as well as the public relation office of Konkan Railways have rubbished the claim.

When contacted, Hospicio Medical Superintendent of Hospicio Dr Ira Almeida said, “There is no way any patient or any traveller from China can get away from the airport without check up and mandatory quarantine period”

“All the airports have a foolproof system to track down travellers from China and also to track affected persons. All travellers from China are kept in quarantine even if symptoms are not seen. If any symptomatic case is come across, the person is shifted to quarantine in Chicalim cottage hospital and further to GMC isolation ward for further decision,” Dr Almeida said.

The Deputy General Manager of Konkan Railway Baban Ghatge said that there is no such case in their quarters or jurisdiction.

Earlier, the message caused fear and anxiety among people to whom it was sent.
