PANJIM: Around 100-odd teachers serving in different talukas under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) said they would go on a hunger strike from March 14, pressing for their demand for regularisation of services that has been pending for six months.
Addressing the media on Thursday, Goa Para-Teachers Association President Ajitsing Rane said the teachers have been demanding regularization of services as they have completed ten years in service. “It is sad to see that the government is giving priority to new recruits in service regularisation, while ignoring the long serving teachers,” he said.
The Association in September, last year held massive demonstrations in the city putting forward their demands. “However, there are no results. We have now decided to go on hunger strike from March 14, till our demands are met,” Rane said.
Rane said that a fresh memorandum has been submitted to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, who is also education minister and to Directorate of Education putting forward the demand of regularization into service, failing which will resort to protest.
The teachers will sit on hunger strike at Azad Maidan between 10.00 am and 5.00pm.
