PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education is all set to conduct the 2013 mid-year examinations for SSC and HSSC candidates from October 1.
As many as 2665 candidates are appearing for the SSC exams at five centres while approximately 1500 candidates will appear for the HSSC exams at two centres.
The HSSC exams will be conducted over a period of 18 days while SSC will conclude within 10 days.
Students generally appearing for these exams are those unsuccessful in the March Board exams. This time, Goa Board has recorded a higher number of students for HSSC as many are from batches of previous years.
The Goa Board has come with stiff instructions for students appearing for the SSC that on the first day of the examination, candidates will have to be present at the place of examination not later than 1.30 pm and on the rest of the days the candidates should report 15 minutes before the commencement of the examination.
It has stated that late arrivals beyond one hour after the commencement of the examination at 2 pm in each subject shall disqualify the candidates to appear for the said examination.
Likewise no candidate will be allowed to leave the examination hall within the first hour of the examination.
The Chairman of Goa Board J R Rebello said that the October 2013 exam this year will be a warm up for the March 2014 Board exams where Goa Board will be conducting both SSC and HSSC exams together for the first time. This year, the exams had been advanced due to the Lusofonia Games which were to be held in November.
The exams are generally conducted during the Diwali vacations. This time again the exams are being held in the afternoon as regular school classes would also be on.
