MARGAO: Students appearing for the secondary school certificate (SSC) examination were left confused on Monday as they along with their parents complained that the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education had bungled up with the Konkani paper.
Parents expressed deep concern over their children losing at least 5 to 10 marks on account of mistakes in the question paper, and difference in the question paper pattern.
Speaking to media persons, parents and students also complained that in question 3.b(i) the fill in the blank question created confusion among the students as the answer to the same was already mentioned in the question, with a spelling mistake; but three more options were given in addition to fill the blank. The students are likely to lose one mark on account of this confusing question, the parents complained.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a student said that in question 7(a), the given passage had four questions to be answered; however, there was absolutely no mention in the given passage with respect to question number 1 and 3 carrying one mark each.
The second term board exams commenced on April 1. Students found differences in the Konkani question paper pattern.
Parents expressed resentment over the changes in the question paper pattern, as it differed from the one given during the preparatory examination held on March 9, 2023.
It was brought to the notice of the OHeraldo that during the preparatory examination, questions to be answered in 15 to 20 words and 25 to 30 words had options i.e. Answer any two from the three, and any one from the two questions respectively.
No such options were provided to the students in the Konkani paper, the parents complained.
Preparatory examinations are held to provide the students an understanding of the pattern of the question paper, apart from preparing them to answer the board exams, so how the pattern could differ, they sought to know.
