ST CRUZ: Santa Cruz Block Congress Committee, at its recently held meeting, shortlisted four names for the 2017 elections which will be forwarded to the District Congress committee shortly.
The meeting was held in the presence of GPCC General Secretary in charge of St Cruz Adv Yatish Naik, Observer Girish Chodankar and others.
The four names short listed are St Cruz block convenor Kishor Narvekar, Mahila Congress General Secretary Helen Lourenco, St Cruz block President John Pereira and GPCC State Minority Chairman Urfan Mulla.
As State Unit President Luizinho Faleiro wants new and young faces and has promised to include new faces same for the forthcoming elections, some villagers from Merces recommended the name of former Merces Sarpanch and Panch Walter D’Sousa, as no villager of Merces has ever been given a chance to represent the constituency. Sources said D’Sousa is emerging as a good candidate and the Party head office thought of forwarding his name too.
Charles D’Souza, a villager who attended the meeting said that if Congress gives the ticket to a young and fresh face it can win the seat.
