The Village Panchayat of Santa-Cruz, with the help of the Tulip Diagnostics, is working up on saving little green spaces and converting them into parks in interest of its villagers. The Park, perched on the picturesque ward of Alto-Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz, will be inaugurated today (Jan. 26).
Parks and other ‘green spaces’ help keep cities cool, and as places of recreation, can help with various health issues. Keeping this in mind, the Village Panchayat of Santa-Cruz is trying to keep the village environment clean and pollution free.
“We are ever happy to contribute to the society! Creating green spaces in rural and urban areas constitutes a significant improvement in the quality of the environment and people’s living conditions. They are leisure spaces and meeting places for all ages and all social categories, encouraging different sectors of the population to mix and integrate,” said Tulip Diagnostics, Director Deepak Tripathi.
The MLA of Santa Cruz constituency Antonio Fernandes said, “I would like to thank Tulip Diagnostics and the Village Panchayat for taking this initiative in opening a green park in the village. Today, parks meet the needs of many dwellers wanting to relax in a natural environment. Open green spaces, gardens / parks improve our physical and psychological health, strengthen our communities, and make our cities and neighbourhoods more attractive places to live and work.”
75 year old villager, L J Giriyan said, “I have not seen or heard of any village panchayat till date take so much initiative in developing its surrounding. First they started by eradicating garbage and now they are encouraging green space.”
Sarpanch of Santa Cruz Mariano Araujo said, “Parks are a tangible reflection of the quality of life in a community. They provide identity for citizens and are a major factor in the perception of quality of life in a given community. Parks and recreation services are often cited as one of the most important factors in surveys of how livable communities are.”
Ex Principal Chief Conservator of forest Goa, Richard D’Souza said, “Parks are important as they provide a green lung for the society, open spaces converted into green parks do nothing but improve the environment and surrounding.”
