ST demands reservation before LS polls

PONDA: The Scheduled Tribes (ST) leaders at Ponda held a meeting to create a mass awareness for political reservation of the community and demanded that the government issue a notification in this regard before the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

Around 75 leaders including prominent members from ST community including sarpanchas, deputy sarpanchas, panchas and others from the Ponda Taluka were present at the meeting.

It may be recalled that the members of 14 Scheduled Tribes organisations along with their elected representatives had met on April 13, at Margao and decided to boycott the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 if notification regarding reservation of seats for Scheduled Tribes in the Goa Assembly is not issued prior to the Parliamentary elections.

The founder member of GAKUVED Kanta Gaude  appealed to members to join this mass movement  in order to achieve the goal of getting political reservation before 2024 Lok Sabha elections and be prepared to do another Jan-Andolan if the government fails to fulfil their demands before 2024 Assembly elections.
