PANJIM: A group of parishioners from St Estevam has written to the Archbishop, dismissing the ‘frivolous allegations’ levelled against the assistant parish priest Fr Dominic Sequeira and parish priest Fr Eusico Pereira.
In separate representations to Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao, the St Estevam parishioners and the parish council urged him to stall the transfers of the two priests while not detailing the allegations against them.
“We strongly denounce and vehemently reject the allegations made by Eurico Menezes against Fr Sequeira and Fr Pereira. There is absolutely no truth in the allegations which can be characterized as frustrations of a puerile and moronic mind. Therefore, they should be dismissed forthwith,” an extract of the letter by the parishioners reads.
Seconding their views, the moderator and members of parish council have termed the allegations as ‘baseless’ and ‘ludicrous,’ which “…can best be described as an attempt to malign their good name and reputation,” the letter states, while condemning the allegations.
They reiterated their request to the Archbishop to reconsider his decision, with parishioners stating that ‘under no circumstances they will accept a situation wherein the two priests are unceremoniously removed from this parish as a consequence of malafide allegations.’
