‘St Joseph Vaz fit as patron of inter-religious dialogue’

CORTALIM: Stating that sainthood for Joseph Vaz would not have come if not for the efforts of all those involved in furthering the cause, Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao said that the last few years were challenging in the 300-year-old process.

He recalled the works done by the vice-postulators including Fr Urbino Monteiro, Fr Robin Rodrigues and the present vice-postulator Fr Eremito Rebelo who worked tirelessly in promoting the devotion of St Joseph Vaz.
Ferrao also recalled the Sri Lankans who played an important role, including vice-postulator Dassanayake, bishops and Postulator Fr James Fitz-Patrick.
Responding to the homily, Fr Rebelo said a lot of work still remains and that many Goans have still to know St Joseph Vaz. He also said that St Joseph Vaz was a fit candidate to be patron of inter-religious dialogue and would petition the Pope to grant the request.
He thanked Archbishop Ferrao for the support and concern that he had been showing over the years in the canonisation process.
Referring to the presence of Karachi Archbishop who originally hails from Pomburpa, Fr Rebelo said his presence served as a symbolic presence of Goans settled in Karachi.
